Traditional Clothes for Women


In the previous post i have talked about Indian Traditional Cloth for men. Now, i will talk about Traditional Cloth for women,


So basically,there are three basic types of Indian Traditional cloth for women which not all of us familiar with it. So this post will tell the reader a little bit about the Indian women Traditional cloth. Indian Traditional Cloth for women is closely associated with the local culture, religion and climate.


So let us go one by one :

Sari or also called as Saree as in figure 1, is a strip of unstitched cloth ragnging from four to nine metres in lenght and the sari is worn by draped over the body in various style and usually it is wear over a petticoat.
Basically, sari is called differently according to the places. For example, in Kerala, white saris with golden border is known as kavanis and it is only being wear during special occasions. As for daily wear is a simple white sari, it is called as mundu,
Sari are came in various colour that will make us amaze.

Next is Ghagra Choli, as shown in Figure 2. Ghagra choli is a combination of lehenga, a tight choli and a odhani. It is a form of long skirt which is pleated. This cloth is basically has a thick border at the bottom and as for the choli, it is a blouse shell garment which is cut to fit to the body and has short sleeves and a low neck.
This traditional wear is worn by the women ranging from simple cotton lehenga choli as a daily wear and for the traditional gaghra with mirrors is usually worn during navratri for the garba dance and fully embroidered lehenga is wear during marriage ceremonies by the bride herself.
As for unmarried Indian women, they prefer wearing this Traditional cloth compare to others.

Salwar Kameez is the third example of Indian Traditional cloth for women, it is as shown in Figure 3.
Salwar kameez is one of the most popular for indian women. This wear is consist of loose trousers narrow at the ankles, topped by a tunic top. Basically, salwar kameez is being wear to cover head and shoulders. This wear is being introduced by Muslims and originated from the Islamic era.
Scarf that called as a dupatta is being worn with salwar kameez which is t cover the head and drawn over the bossom. This wear is usually worn by almost every teenage girl.
In conclusion, this three types of Indian Traditional Cloth for women is so interesting and amaze us with their culture, colours and the fabric. The colours and fabric of Indian Traditional cloth is being popular since long time ago and we as the other culture should learn about it.
